Conrad, Iowa is where NuCara was founded, and we wanted to share a little more about the great and growing town with all of our NuCara followers.
Located in Grundy County, it is just 15 miles from Marshalltown and within commuting distance to Des Moines, Ames, Cedar Falls and Waterloo.
Conrad is often called the “black dirt capital of the world” because of its extremely rich soil. Conrad also holds an annual celebration, “Black Dirt Days” in honor of its soil that includes fun activities and events including a quilt show, fireworks, karaoke, dancing, and pony rides.
Conrad’s school district has been recognized at a state and national level.
Despite its small size, Conrad offers a lot to do and many attractions to visitors and those who call it home, including the Family Aquatic Center, a nine-hole watered golf course, Dreamland Playground, a public library, and Comet Nature Trail, which is part of the American Discovery Trail Network.
Conrad has launched a “Navigating Our Future” campaign to improve the city in five major ways in the next five years. The new improvements will include a new community center, new town entrances and signs, new sidewalks, more advanced educational techniques, and an increased number of businesses and retailers located within the city.
